View Full Version : The Fab 5 with the Pox this morning
I am moving this to "non life threatenin" because I want the positive energy...
My Fab 5 were all here this morning. And a few friends with them as well. A regular little party event.......Anyway, I am not seeing the pox worsen, a few spots even seemed to be going away.....I'm still praying, but feeling postive that this pox will go away soon.
They seem to not be having any problems, breathing, or anything. They would most likely have to look in a mirror to even know they have it.

Thanks for the update and moving the thread. I agree..positive energy!
I hope you saw the "squirrel pox" thread http://thesquirrelboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11364&highlight=benny
Benny had the worst case of pox I have ever seen and recovered!! She used something called Olive leaf Glycinite (not sure of spelling!). The rehab center where I worked would not use any high powered drugs on the animals going to the wild for they thought it would harm their systems in someway that would cause harm in the future. Lot's of discussion on that one but just thought I would just add that opinion to the mix!
I am glad you can feed them the almond butter so it could be a method to administer meds!
Best of luck, I know they will get better. I cured a raven with pox just by supplementing his nutrition.
I know they will get better. Sending prayers and healing energy:grouphug :grouphug :grouphug

Yes the almond butter works perfectly.....and I like putting it on the spoon as they can't carry it off, so I know that they get it all.
I know what your saying about treating with drugs. I will have some here, but only will use as last resort is how I'm thinking right now. Which is why I started giving the almond butter to prepare them incase I have to medicate , but I think to give them drugs will only create weakened immune systems for the next time they need to fight something off.
My vet wanted to give my dog antibiodics for a month "just incase" as he was showing in a blood test to be "low" on placelets. She said that this "could be" due to a tick bike.....well, there were way too many "could be's" for me to be treating him for a month. Drugs for a month would of weakened his system and cause hot spot after hot spot. When younger, he had an ear infection, I took him to the vet, they had him on antibiodics and something else, anyway, then a hot spot appeared, so then predisone.....and a collar to keep him from tearing himself apart. And this went on and on for 3 years.....it was nuts. Finally I did some research online myself and found a formula ...alchol, boric acid powder and a violet extract.....I made the formula, and plucked the hair from inside his ears......everytime he looks like he's getting a little red, I will drop in a few drops......and he has no more ear infections, and magically, no more hot spots. he's not had one now in 4 years. So for a dog that was having them constantly.....and if any of you have seen my dog on the video's, he's really cute with lots of long hair, and he wasn't cute with red , hot lesions all over and his hair falling out due to hot spots.
Of course, I get into a bit of a heated diiscussion with the vet , because all these young vets now all want to treat with drugs......it's like your own doctors......it's nuts.
Maybe it's money in their pockets, I don't know. But, domestic pets today have alot more problems, with allergies, illnesses...and so...maybe the constant handing out drugs to treat with is the culprint. ?
I'm way too long winded today....

Great idea to start a new thread here, Mads!! Now you can track their progress here and people can feel free to stop in with words of support, without triggering emergency emails to the rehabbers.
I'm so glad to hear -- and see! -- that they are still doing well! :thumbsup Their actions and activity level will tell you a lot about how they are feeling.
I spent a long time flipping back and forth between the new picture and the first ones, to compare. His eye was being pushed half shut by the lesions in the first pics and that whole area of his face was puffy and a bit reddened. Today his eye is open and clear and he looks like he is feeling better. I don't see any additional lesions in the areas we can see. Did you get a good look at his right eye too? In the pic there is quite a large pox there, so that eye should be watched as well.
The other one seems to only have pox on his ears? That's a good sign, if there are only a few.
Pictures are great so you can track how each is doing each day, see whether any new lesions appear, as well as when they start to scab over.
Did the NutriFeron arrive yet? Do they like their "tea"?
Sending get well wishes and good vibes your way ...........

The Fab 5 are in my prayers. I so agree with you on so many drugs being given out too soon sometimes.
You're doing a fantastic job.

Yes, yesterday they were here. They had almond butter with Solid gold sea meal, I've not yet received the Shaklee Nutriferon. Hopefully today. But the Solid gold is a good product, I use it with my dog. And they had carrots, and rodent block, (redone with added goodies)....so they ate well. and looked good.
One fabber looks like his pox are drying out already.........the one who only has a few on his ear.
The other one, still has his pox, but it's not getting worse......and it's looking about the same as the last photo's.

Thanks for the very good update!!
I had looked briefly at the website for the Solid Gold Seameal -- interesting product and website. For anyone wondering what this is, this is some of what they say about the product:
Solid Gold Seameal contains 60 trace minerals, 12 vitamins, 22 amino acids, digestive enzymes, and flaxseed meal. It is excellent for animals with allergy problems and/or skin and coat problems. When Seameal is added to food, it increases the digestibility of the food. It is made with 19 different species of sea vegetation, an excellent source of nutrients. The addition of seaweed and kelp to an animal's diet can produce many great benefits. SeaMeal can help boost the immune, hormone, and enzyme systems of the body, restore lost hair growth, intensify coat color, and boost the immune system.
Guaranteed Analysis:
Protein, Min. 9%
Fat, Min. 10%
Fiber, Max. 13%
Moisture, Max. 12.2%

So good to hear that news. For what it is worth - the oral acyclovir requires very high dosages due to low uptake (25%) and very short half life in the blood. That is why you see such high dosages for adults (800 mg x 4).
So - IMO - I might lower the acyclovir treatment to 3d on my list for treating viral pox problems.
A perspective.........

Interesting; I wonder if that Seal Meal would help with kitten fur syndrome.

It's probably worth a try. It's not that expensive. My dog used to get horrible hot spots.......he was miserable, and had to wear that collar more than not as it seemed that he always was getting them.......everytime he went on medication for ear infections. I use solid gold dog food anyway, and so I started him on this sea meal......and long story short...we've not had ANY hot spots in 4 years.
But, we don't medicate for ear infections either anymore. I use another home remedy for his ears.
