I've noticed that Timothy is sounding congested..but only when he is cleaning himself or his nose otherwise his breathing is normal...Is this something that is normal? I have heard it occationally in the past but again when he is cleaning his fur or nose....
Just for a heads up he is 63g....eating good...drinking good...getting his vitamins everyother day...calcium 3-4 times a week...is very active...his sleeping pattern has not changed...pretty much everything else is statis-quo...I have always been careful of water around him and so his water dish is always only filled with 3 ounces of water...changed a couple times a day..
I do have on hand 500mg of Cephalexin...it is a recent script from the vet for a rash my dog had on her belly....I'm hoping I won't need to use them or anything else....
I also found amoxicillin 250mg, but the expiration date was 2/07...so I'm not sure if they are still ok...I also found a script from a vet for one of my rats, Baytril tablets 22.7mg...but the visit date was August, 2004.....I don't know the shelf life of Baytril....??
I think I've covered all the bases......:thankyou

Would you please describe the symptoms with more detail - not sure what you are seeing or hearing.

It's difficult to describe the sound..I am trying to think of a comparison...It doesn't exactly sound like congestion but similar...It is very similar to someone shwishing a little water to rinse, but a touch deeper in tone.....and as I said earlier, he only makes this noise when he is washing his body or face and nose....

Are you sure that there really is a problem? Not being a smarty - may just want to watch for awhile - might be nothing.

I will deffinately keep my ears on him.....:rotfl but the reason I posted was just me being protective and concerned for Timothy....He does once in awhile sneeze, but not all the time....I'm thinking that is normal as all my animals sneeze once in awhile, me included in that statement....:rotfl
:thankyou

Interesting you mentioned sneezing. One reason squirrels do this is to blow liquid snot out the nose to clean themselves with, not just licking their paws alone like cats do, to then clean their faces with, where they cannot reach with their tongues. I read it in a book long time back, and the squirrels we cared for did this allot.
Do keep us posted on any changes in him that you notice in your precious boy.

Yes. They blow as much as they do, to wash themselves, and lick their paws to wash their faces, and other places they cannot reach with their tongues! My husband didn't like that much 411 either, as I recall! :shakehead
I can just see it now, there will be much squirrel washing going on, on TSB tonight!
Look, one member has already washed hers, and hung it up to dry with her sock!

Tiny Paws, didn't get home from work until 4 am this morning, but when I did I spent some time with Secret and while he was sitting on my arm he started grooming himself and quess what?? the noise you describe he was doing, and now that we know about the "snot" thing it sure fits!
Like you say it is hard to describe the sound and now that I have had my attention drawn to it, it most definitely is a sound he has made often before.
To me it was like a very quiet rhymatic fast snorting?? KIinda like a dog sniffing but quieter, the snorts were much shorter and of course more elegant!! :)
I think you can relax about Timothy,he is just trying to keep his adorable little self gorgeous!! (with snot) :crazy

SM...That does make me feel better....Many flyer owners may experience this same thing but haven't put it together with grooming and may think they have phumonia....and start home treatments with antibiotics.....This info should be put out there somewhere for people to see...or when someone visits and says their flyer sounds like it's congested...one of the questions put to them for info should be to watch and see if they only do it while grooming.....have I confused you yet? I've confused me....:rotfl Well, I hope you get what I am trying to relay.....:poke [/B]
