I've searched and found some great info regarding traps here but I can't find one that mentions the actual size of the trap.

We have quite a robust squirrel population and last night we saw a wounded squirrel, she was amost dragging her rear legs. Most of the squirrels will let us get pretty close so I tried approaching with a walnut but she kind of scurried to the nearest tree and with great difficulty climbed to a branch just high enough to be out of reach. There was some blood on her lower tummy but there was no way for us to get at her and long story short, she ended up scurrying under a porch on the side of the condo and they are impossible to get under.

If we had a trap it would have been much easier to help her out. There are a couple of havahart traps that are for squirrels and there is one that is a single door and is 17x7x7 which seems like a pretty good size.

Here is a link to Amazon for that particular trap (http://www.amazon.com/Havahart-1077-Professional-Style-Squirrels/dp/B000IHDRXM/ref=sr_1_37?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1215533178&sr=8-37)

I don't need to buy if from Amazon but it was the first place I found one of that size. Is this the trap I should be looking at size wise?

Thanks

Home Depot sells several sizes for from 21.00 to 44.00. When you consider shipping costs, this is comparable. Plus, you could get it a lot sooner. Lowes also sells a few. Ace Hardware also carries an excellent professional quality trap that has worked very well for me but it costs more--around 60.00. A 7" opening would be the minimum size.

Tips:
Make sure you thoroughly familiarize yourself with the trap first. Try setting it and springing it a lot to make sure you can set the tension just right. You will probably only get one chance to catch her.

When you set it, put it where the squirrel normally goes. Up against a bush or tree with opening facing outwards. You can also put some grass or branches over the trap to make it look more natural.

Make sure no grass or twigs are in the way of the door closing.

Empty all your feeders until you catch her.

A good bait is a half an apple covered with natural peanut butter and spiked with a few more peanuts.

If 7" would be the minimum size for an opening then the next size up is 32x10x12 and they carry it at home depot for 45.00. I'll pick one up this afternoon.

Thanks.

That sounds good. Just make sure it's not so big that a 1-pound squirrel won't spring it. Good luck.

I ended up getting the 24x7x7 at Cabela's and I'm waiting to see if she comes out again. She was looking pretty bad last night so I'm not 100% she even made it through the night, especially if she was unable to make it up into a tree.

There will be some light for another hour or so and hopefully she will show up :(
