Hello,

Can someone please explain to me the practical difference between "O-ring" syringes and regular ones?

Thanks!

:wave123hi jennifer!
The Leur Lock or O-ring syringes are much harder to push, and really can't be sucked in by the animal itself without the human pushing a bit on the plunger. They are many many times better than the regular syringes for this reason, that babies can't suck down a huge quantity of formula at once, and aspirate it into their lungs. There is almost no price difference and I would recommend O-ring syringes to EVERYONE feeding a baby ANYTHING. :)

O-rings are top notch and I would never buy another regular syringe again. Regular syringes start sticking after a couple of uses and if you push it trying to get it unstuck while feeding you can aspirate the baby as well. O-ring is the best syringe for feeding babies.

Hi guys!

Thanks. I'm not feeding babies (or even squirrels for that matter, haha).

I am currently using a 35 cc syringe with a catheter tip attached to a feeding tube to crop feed sick birds, so I'm not really worried about aspiration in this case. I occasionally have problems like FM describes with the plunger sticking after a while and wondered whether the O-ring type might be better.

However, I have not been able to find 35 cc O-ring syringes with a catheter tip. Does anyone know if they exist? (I want to be able to feed relatively thick mixes, which I think might have trouble passing through the slip tips.)

I also use Monoject tuberculin syringes (1 cc) directly down the throat, but just looking at the pictures, it seems the equivalent O-ring syringes have a smoother "neck" (don't know what to call that area where the tip mets the barrel), and thus would be more comfortable going down. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks!!
Jennifer

Hi and thanks--but those are luer lock tips, not catheter tips, so I'd probably still have the problem of thick formula not going through easily.

I see...she seems to carry the 60 and 100cc catheter tips, but not the 35's...:(
