squirrel sucking

My fox squirrel, 5 weeks of age, is sucking on the other genital regions. I tried some anti lick gel from chris's squirrel shop but that's not helping. Are there any other suggestions?

I like the sock idea! I wish I had thought of that when I was going through the same problem. I ended up having to separate them for a couple of nights to give them a chance to heal, etc. Also used neosporin to accerate the healing process. You really do need to stop them because it can get serious if not monitored. How many do you have? and, yes, frequent feedings are very important as well. Hang in there!

Do you know how much they weigh? How much are you feeding them? Sometimes that is a sign of not getting fed enough. If that's not the case, you can try the stuff they put on children's thumbs to stop them from thumb-sucking. Maybe they won't like the taste of that. You can also take a sock, cut out holes for its head and legs, and put it on the one for protection. If nothings works, then you may have to separate them for a while.

wow gamma ty for that info...my lil coonie i had used to suck on his own..i just thought it was normal...i will deff keep that in mind if another baby comes to me...

Give them a piece of orange to suck on. Works everytime.

Please be careful if you use Thum. I have seen this over used for genital nursing and it has burned the skin. I have had better luck with the Yuk myself. They have a big need to suck so you can add another feeding (reducing the amount from the other feedings so not to over feed), slow down your feedings so it takes longer, let them suck on the nipple even after the syringe is empty and them keep them separated for about 10 minutes after feeding when the urge is great.
