I was just wondering if the pet squirrel diet that is posted would be the same for the wild squirrel diet. I have three greys in a pre release cage right now and I feed them a mix of veggies and a little fruit, oats, little bit of corn, and sunflower seeds, along with beech nuts that are starting to form and wild blackberries that are growing around here. Does the diet sound okay, they also drink their formula morning and evening and are offered it from a dish in the afternoon.

erogers, so long as they are on formula the diet you're giving them is ok, IMO. (Without formula, the corn and sunflower seeds would be a no-no because they can make squirrels lose calcium. ) Anything from the pet squirrel diet list would be fine for your squirrels. Especially as they wean themselves off the formula you'll want to make sure they are eating cruciform veggies (broccoli & cauliflower) and dark green leafy things like kale and escarole -- again, making sure they get their calcium. Pumpkin seeds (unsalted) are a good alternative to sunflower seeds.

IR...what about cucumber seeds, cantaloupe seeds, and bell pepper seeds? Fallen absotely loves those. I dry them out and he picks those over along with pumpkin seeds first to anything else unless we get lucky and find a wild mushroom :D

Sorry for thread jacking but though this kind of lined up with pre-release diet.

no problem FM....I would think those are all fine unless 4S or one of our more scientifically astute members say no....last year my gang loved pomegranate and prickly pear seeds too. :)
