Hello,

We have a young grey squirrel that we're nursing til it's a bit older and can be released. He has a lesion on his nose that is closed and he has an open and pus-leaking one on his tummy near his leg. He's licking it. Any ideas? Could it be pox? Any treatment solutions? Also, what are some signs that he's ready to be released?

A picture or two would really help the rehabbers. Can you get one?

How long have you had him and was the lesion there when you first got him. Is it possible that a cat had him? Usually pox lesions are red and look ulcerated after the scab has come off. If his lesion is oozing pus I am wondering if it is an abcess. A picture would really help. It could also be a bot fly larva. Can you see anything moving in the one oozing the pus? Don't panic if it is, the larva won't hurt him it's just gross.

Hello!

Photos aren't available just yet as the camera cord is at work but I don't see any larvae in the pus. Some fur is coming off with his licking it seems as it's clumped and movable. I've run it under water (he's very easy going) and he's cleaned it some more. The cat may have got him... we've been very careful about keeping them separated but I suppose anything could have happened. Maybe someone left the door open to the room we have him in? Even for a second. What are the risks if it's the cat's fault?

Thanks so much for your help!!!:thankyou :thankyou
