Okay, we took our Flying Squirrel Rocky(The one in my avatar) to the vet today, and he admittedly said he didn't know much about flying squirrels, and he then gave us this medicine to put on his bald tail. It's called Tresaderm in case the balding was caused by a fungis. He also said that it could've been growing bald because of hormones like some tomcats with stud tail. What do you guys think? You seem alot smarter than the vet about small creatures like this. Should I keep using the medicine? Help me.

:dono Make sure you post this on your other thread so that all the info on him is in one spot. That way the rehabbers don't miss something important. Best of luck with him. :thumbsup

Before I'd start putting medicine on him from someone who admits they don't know squirrels, I'd concentrate on 1) his diet and 2) locating an "exotics" vet
Do some research on the medicine - on the internet and here by asking some rehabbers about this medicine - find out if it is something that, if you use it, will not cause him any harm in case a fungus is NOT his problem.:)

I'm not a rehabber, but I did check with a vet about the Tresaderm. He said it would not hurt Rocky even if it's not a fungus. It might not help, but it will not hurt. :thumbsup

Agreed Tresaderm is an antibacterial, antiimflammatory and antifungal and would be safe. It is a good all purpose topical for lesions of unknown cause....

The problem could also be a case of over grooming, or even if there is sometihng me might be constantly rubbing his tail against, like the opening of a nest box.

The thing is though, I don't groom him, he's too.....fast.
