Tuffy is not doing well the infection in his leg from the cat bite has gotten much worse. It's very swollen & inflamed, shes already done Baytril and now on another sulfatrim.
She keeps reaplying silvadine and he keeps licking it off and urine is getting into the wound also.
She said it is very warm to the touch, she gave him Metacam for pain.
Any advice for her she's at work presently but can run home.

I'm so sorry.

If the sulfatrim doesn't help very quickly, you could try amoxi-clav, a good choice in case it's staph.

Also, try keeping the wound dry instead of moist. A moist environment can encourage bacterial growth.

Ok I'm home now, Thank you Rippie for starting this thread for me. Here are some pics of what I'm dealing with. I hate to sound panicky but it has gone from bad to worse in a matter of days. The first picture is from last week. The other pictures are from today. Any and all suggestions are appreciated!

That will need surgical treatment. Drainage at least.

Do NOT give Tuffy any meds ending in cilin. It will kill his good gut bacteria and he will die of diarrhea. It is safe to give I think Penicillin by injection, but not sure. How long have you had Tuffy? The wound is from when you originally got him right? Was it healing at first then stopped and got worse? Sulfatrim is the best thing for skin infections and things like that. Have you tried neosporin on the wound?

It's not letting me view your link GB :dono . I think Bactrim is another name for sulphatrim. I don't have my book with me though, so I am not sure.

Don't worry, nothing with cillin in it is coming near Tuffy. I have soaked him in warm water and put neosophorin on him. I am still giving him Sulfatrim twice a day. He's very alert and hopping, well best he can, around. He is dragging his infected leg. He is on pain meds also. Bless his little heart, he really is a tough little bunny. I am trying to keep the wound open so it can drain. I won't be able to get him to a vet that will see him til Tuesday afternoon.

His wound was healing fine, until one morning I got him out to feed him, and there was a poop stuck inside of his wound. I flushed it and put silvadene on it but I don't know if the poo had been in it all night or not. Every since then, the wound has gotten worse.

Sissy, fltech told me about a gel that her and Loopy Squirrel use that she gets from the vet clinic that she works at...Carravet Gel. http://www.vetamerica.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=688 (http://www.vetamerica.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=688)

You do not need a prescription. :thumbsup

I am using it on Roxy's abscess and the wound looks better than it has looked in a year...after only several applications.
