Hello everyone: I have an orphaned male baby grey about 130 grams. I have had him since Sat. On Monday night I went in to feed him and he was in a seizure positions ( straigt-head and neck arched back-rigid). I immediately wrapped him up in flannel and put some heat on him while stroking his tummy and back) After about 1 1/2 hrs he started to perk up. He had some fluids and started to nibble on walnuts/pecans. He hasn't had a seizure that I know of since that night. At the time of his seizure he was buddied up with another little male squirrel. The little squirrel that had the seizure is quite well endowed. When I found the little guy the other squirrel was standing over him. Since that Monday the little guys penis is quite swollen. Where the urine exits there is a yellow scab- (oh so small) I don't think that he can pass his urine with this scab on it. I soaked his genitals in warm water and gently took the scab off. At that time he urinated. Within less than an hour the scab reforms. I have been doing the following- soaking/compresses with warm water-polysporin-preparation H for swelling and he is on .2mg of Sulfa trim. He he eating fine and pooping good. What else can I do? Could this have been cause with the other buddy sucking on it on seizure day. Maybe the seizure squirrel couldn't get the other guy off of him and then he started to seizure. Do you think that sucking could cause this and his seizures.

We have had alot of suckers/suckees.....never a seizure connection...????
I usually seperate...I put Panalog Cream on scab...it is a Nystatin Neomycin Sulfate-Thiostrepton-Triamcinolone acetonide Cream.{prescribed}
Could the seizure be from head trauma, is he discolored anywhere{bruised}?
Someone with better/more help will be on shortly...:grouphug

Glad to be here. There is no discoloration, bruising or swelling on his body or head. He acts just fine! He climbs his little branches, searches and hides little nuts, snuggles in his fleecy hat at nap time. Drinks his formula like a tropper. He poops fine. Just the peeing is not going well!

It's the seizure thing ...that bothers me...I don't think it is related...:thinking

His urine is quite clear. Doesn't pee a whole lot. Not wet in gental area.
I think you are doing everything right. If the swelling persists I may be able to offer a homeopathic remedy to help. :)

I will keep doing the same remedies and hopefully the Sulfatrim will cause the infection to go away. Thanks for the responses.

I have some pictures of a rehabber with this problem. She soaked his bottom in warm water for 30 -40 minutes and then gently removed scabs. He got well in a few days. He did NOT like being held in the water, though, but I think that is what I do with my infected blisters and cuts. Water as hot as I can take it---squirrel babies might need it cooler than me!---a couple of times in the first 24 hours.

I have had a couple of boys with the problem of scabs. I attached a pic below. If they go without milk for too long, they suckle on anything that they think might be a nipple. This one was pretty bad. I had to help him for about 7 days around the clock to keep the urinary pathway open. Sounds like you are doing fine!

once i had a baby gray squirrel that streched out with her front legs out and back legs straight out , making a noise , i thought it as a seizure, but she said it was a fright fit, that something had scared it and that it would be ok she was right the little baby was fine and i never seen her do it again maybe this to was a fright and not a seizure:dono

Thanks for all the imput. The swelling is starting to go down:wahoo No more seizures which is great and hopefully no more will happen. I'll keep doing the above remedies. The little guy knows that I'm helping him. He's so calm, such a sweet baby. :Love_Icon
