Hi I was having a problem with poo from the squirrel which has been light in colour and soft yesterday it was diarrhoea, its all over her tail very runny

The esbilac hasnt arrived yet so have been feeding whole goats milk with a tiny drop of organic yogurt, and a drop of abidec vitamins

I havent given her any milk at all today and when i do as she is hungry, so is going to need feeding

shall i say use 1 part goats milk only nothing else to 3 parts cool boiled water?

I am presuming as she is fairly big not a tiny tiny baby this would be safe as she can eat food and she is still active
should i also stop her fruit today?? or just limit it to say a banana and some dry food

some advice please Andrea UK

shadysheepie, stop the fruit altogether, make sure she is very hydrated with Pedialyte or its equivalent. I would give her only hydration fluid for the first 8 hours today and maybe some solid foods but NOT fruit....then resume the goats milk but without the vitamins. You need to isolate what is giving her 'the runs', so try removing the fruit and vitamins first. Some baby squirrels will get diarrhea from some fruits every time.

Hi! She should not have goats milk at all. For right now, just give her warmed pedialite, and nothing else. Let the milk get out of her system. How long before you can get the Esbilac? She should be on the pedialite for about 24 hours.

I ordered it on line from best pets pharmacy, she didnt want the feed i mixed her up and her poo is not so runny today still light in colour and soft,

she was not that interested in the syringe wanted her food, and kept grunting until i put her back in the cage where she ran around and scented every where AGAIN she does this every time she comes out

then went straight to the food bowl , I have given her a small bit of banana, small bit of celery, small bit of apple, small bit of coats cheese 3 pumpkin seeds 2 almonds and a 1/4 of a walnut and a tiny bit of sheeps cheese

I have noticed that one day she will really gulp her milk and take 25mls per feed the next day she wont hardly feed on milk at all its a job to get her to take 10ml

I have given her water today in a syringe and got about 7mls into her

but she is bright eyed bushy tailed and running around like squirrels do a little furry bomb

sorry should add she is not dehaydrated have checked thather skin is nice and supple and she is weeing ok (I breed Maine coons and Devon rexs so know the signs of dehaydration)

should add i use bottled water for all baby animals in the house as well

I have lactol here which is a subsitute milk would that be better for her?

I havent given her any, but wondering if it would be better then the Goats milk
I think it may well be the abidec thats upset her tummy,
I am tempted to put some slippery elm powder in her food this is what i use for my kittens when they have upset tums its a herbal remedie 100% mother nature provided great for runny bottoms

Will do a bit of research it cant hurt her

:Welcome .... and please keep on "pestering" (we don't think it's pestering at all!) -- it's much better for our rehabbers to hear as things progress so they can guide you along, so posting updates and asking about anything that seems amiss to you is Very Good!!

You are in good hand with those that have responded already. A "light color" poop is normal for babies on formula (as opposed to "mom"), so you should focus more on the texture than the color. Also, it is sometimes hard on their tummies to change formula. Since the Esbilac is on its way, it may be better to wait for that than introduce a third brand in the middle -- but if Island rehabber or fltech (both rehabbers) or other responding rehabbers instruct you otherwise -- please listen to them. :)

I hope she's doing better soon ... we have a Happy Poopy Dance smilie to bring out when it's time :D :D

shady, try leaving out the banana and apple from her diet. I have had squirrels that could not tolerate either -- resulting in diarrhea.

I have noticed that one day she will really gulp her milk and take 25mls per feed the next day she wont hardly feed on milk at all its a job to get her to take 10ml

Unless she weighs over 500g, 25mls is WAY too much food at one feeding and will result in -- diarrhea. She should be taking appx. 5-7% of her body weight at each feeding. If she weighs 150g, for example, that would be 7.5-9mls per feeding.

Hi Andrea!
If you have just started her on the Abidec, Im sure that is what is causing this problem. This is quite common at first, so don't worry! Stop the Abidec and see if it clears up, if so don't bother with the Abidec for now. Keep offering her the goats milk untill you get the Esbilac - She is probably being fussy with it simply because she is wanting more solid food now. Just let her take the amount she wants, just keep offering still.
Like IR said, cut out the fruit, or at least cut it down for a while.
Hope she's better soon!:grouphug
Please keep us updated with her progress. :thumbsup
