Default Need tips on how to get a 6 weeks old to accept antibiotics

    Hello,
I am writing about a squirrel who is under someone else's care (the person won't join the board for some reason).
She found an approximately 6 weeks old squirrel and took him to the vet, who prescribed antibiotics for a respiratory infection (don't know which kind of AB). The Squirrel, Joey, refuses the antibiotics. She's tried mixing with formula and Joey refused it. She tried adding a little maple syrup and he refused it again. I've never given AB to a baby myself, so I don't know what to tell her as far as tips to make the squirrel accept the AB. She needs to give him 0.3 ml. What suggestion can I make?

    Thanks

I would not mix AB's with formula at all as that will make them refuse formula. I would try again mixing it with just a bit of syrup and it's such a small amount I would go drop by drop and try to get as much in as possible.

Thank you very much for replying so quickly.
I really appreciate it. I passed on the advice. Hopefully the little guy will accept it now. He's been through a lot poor thing. Losing his mom, getting fleas, maggots, infection... I feel sorry for him.

Little Joey has been taking his AB mixed with maple syrup, and he's accepting formula! All is good now. Thanks again aLittleNutty
