    Default Nesting box question

I'm prepping for a soft release and I was wondering if they should have a nesting box that can be moved to a tree later...

Also... I have two squirrels, do I get one nesting box or two?

You will want to get one for the big day. You may want to get two.. one for now to get them used to it and one for the big day. Why? Because I am told they will gnaw it to death.

I had one that I introduced about a month before release. That particular batch did not do too much damage. They did not chew on stuff much except their antler and bone. The ones I have now would probably demolish it fast.. they are getting one next week.

I would say one box for no more than four squirrels. As that is the typical maximum litter size. And they will typically stay with their family during the winter.

I like the ones at Chrissquirrels and more but other places may have them cheaper. The one for RELEASE - you will want it to have a predator baffle. You can also build them yourself if your handy that way.

That said.. I am a Newby.. So hopefully someone with more experience will chime in soon.

    Absolutely on question 1.
I'd personally get two on question 2.
    Grown squirrels are basically solitaire,
sooner or later one or the other would
    get thrown out.
