    Default infection in belly

I have a squirrel that I just got in that has an infection in her belly. She had a bunch of sores on her body from sticks on the ground or in the nest. Most of them have healed now. One in particular is swollen. She is taking clavamox once a day and Ive been keeping triple antibiotic ointment on it. Ive been squeezing the puss out but now its healed over. Any ideas of what more I can do? Here is a picName: IMG_4668.JPG

It looks as though you have done what needed to be taken care of... just finish the course
of AB's and continue to treat the sore with topical ointment 3x a day then wait for healing.

You could also flush the pocket with a dilute Betadine solution.

Try putting a warm compress on that area so you can keep it open. Of course not so warm as to burn the baby. The infection still needs to drain out.

I agree with redwuff. Warm moist compresses 3 to 4 times a day should help. That is a really big abscess for one so little, it looks like it is displacing the genitals, so goodness knows how much compression is going on inside maybe squishing the internal organs?

What a little trooper this baby is.
You are doing a great job. Make sure to finish the antibiotic.

Took Dallas to the vet today. Turns out that it was a bot fly. She took it like a champ.

Keep the area clean and all should heal up well from this point on. (((hugs)))

Ugh! What is it with bots around here lately?? Those $&@! things are just despicable! Thank you so much casiokitty for taking that baby to the vet and having that "thing" removed. You are right, she has got to feel better...now she can heal. What nerve of that bot to go for a baby so small! I would have squished it with glee!

Oh that is great news!!! One of my wilds has two. First time I have seen any around here ever. Nasty things but it looks like they should emerge soon and it doesn't seem to be causing him any problems other than hair loss due to scratching at one of them that is right in the middle of his back.

Goodness those bots have no scruples. I wondered if it was a bot, but just could not go there. Way to go, good for you to take that precious baby to the vet.
