It can still climb but you can tell it has trouble doing it. I called an exotic pet vet in Indy and they said if I caught it and gave them $25 they would evaluate it and decide whether to euthanize it or send it to a rehabber. I have never tried to catch a squirrel before and don't know if this would be more traumatizing than to just leave it and try to treat the wound. someone told be to give it Penicillin twice daily for 10 days and told me how to dilute it. So I am not sure if I should go this route or try to catch it. If it is broken how do they treat that? I"d appreciate some help. Thanks!
It would have to be caught in order to treat as well as limit activity to reduce further injury.
A youngster would not be as traumatized as a fully grown, don't say they would like it.
My concern would be with compromised abilities that it may fall and cause even more injury or even be caught again.
Even with a break, squirrels have amazing healing abilities and can do well with a little help.
Not knowing what your experience is, have you done this before and / or would this be something you think you could handle?
I would not even consider taking it anywhere that one has said; "would evaluate it and decide whether to euthanize it or send it to a rehabber."
In my opinion, a responsible rehabber IS the only option!
