For the first year and 5 months of Ambrose's life, he was on a terrible diet. I don't know what his previous owner gave him as formula, but I know she gave him a measuring cup full of beer a day with some veggies when he got older. When I got him, I figured "hey, he's a squirrel, squirrels eat seeds & nuts!" so he was on store bought squirrel food and veggies. Soon as I joined here, I realized how horrible that diet was for him.
Having been on TSB for a few months, I've noticed there's a lot of people who have the same assumption I did. We all know having a good starting point is crucial, but how crucial is it? If we kept our squirrels in the best condition we could with blocks and vitamins and healthy veggies and exercise, etc., would the bad starting point take years, potentially, off of their life?
