Default Not completely new but intro anyways =)

    Greetings!

I found this site more than a year and a half ago when I was looking online for answers to a couple questions I had about a squirrel I was overwintering. She had been an orphan from a nearby tree.

That little squirrel and the DNR fiasco that followed led me to become a permitted Novice Rehabilitator in Minnesota, finalized just recently.

I currently have 6 babies and returned to the SB when I was unable to reach my squirrel mentor about health questions regarding one of them.

I hope it's okay for a new rehabilitator to seek out advice from others more experienced =)

I want to do what's best for these little guys.

I am married, have three children, James 24 (who is allergic to squirrels), Jason 21 (who built my outside squirrel cage) and Jexi 7 (who helps me with escaping squirrels when it's feeding time).

I'm a licensed massage therapist and have my own business, my studio is in my home. That helps me to schedule work around feeding babies!

I also run three global community websites for online fantasy role playing. One of which was started in 2001. I love to write fantasy =)

I'm a Girl Scout leader by default and President of my BNI chapter.

    That's me in a -- nutshell.

So glad you have joined us here at TSB. You are at the correct place to ask any and all squirrel questions. (We just might answer some not so squirrelly questions, too) For taking the time to study, test, etc and become a rehabber, the world needs us!!!

Always great to have a new member on board -- and you just might be the first one in Minnesota, or at least the first in a very long time! Please please ask questions, that's what we're here for. That and having fun with squirrels, of course.

I haven't been fishing in ages. Used to go to Little Hardwood on Leech Lake with my grandparents.

Dont let anyone tell you it's just a squirrel. Tell them they have never taken the time to let a squirrel get into your heart!

Thanks. I love them at this age. They grow so dang fast too.

They've just started being up and playing in the last couple of days.

It's amazing how they progress so quickly through caging from small aquariums to small ferret homes to large ferret homes. Next stage, outdoor cage!

    Not for awhile though =)

WELCOME and thanks for officially becoming a Rehabber.

My Rama Rota and Cruiser-- are growing up in Costa Rica with out any concerned , skilled vets, no rehabbers-- and supplies are usually sent from the States--
But with Fox valley and TSB guidance--they seem to be JUST FINE...

    Keep the photos coming...

I wanted to help. There is an abundance of orphaned squirrels around me and a visit from the DNR while I was helping the first squirrel I kept rather than turn over to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center prompted me to learn more, get the training and take the steps to get the permit (seemed a more logical step than going to court, paying a massive fine, having my property confiscated and landing in jail where I couldn't help anyone).

We have great vets here, I'm lucky. I saw a blog about your Rama Rota. Do you still wear the headgear?

I don't think that the aggressive behavior is limited to just males. I opened Bandit's cage, like I had done every day, to let her out to 'bury' an acorn in my living room. And she leaped onto my face .. all claws sunk in. Before I even registered what happened, she'd run down my arm and bit me so hard, blood ran, like I saw in your pictures. About the time I realized she'd bitten my arm, she was on to my other arm, trying to do the same.

    HORMONES!!

I know that dread you were talking about.

That little squirrel kicked my butt!!

Which is why I say ... if they weighed 50 pounds, they would rule the world!!

Fox Valley --- what an incredible, caring owner.

I should have my GS troop make him a HUGE thank you card for putting his heart into his business.

-- I think the first training I had, there was a speaker that was moving to a rehabilitation place in Costa Rica from here. He'd been traveling back and forth and finally decided to retire there. I should see if I can find his name and the name of the facility there.
