    Default Antibiotic needed

Simon is going to get uti often , I need to keep an antibiotic on hand at all times
is there some thing I can get with begging the vet , I have asked for silver sulfadiazine and smz-tmp or baytril and haven't heard back from vet in over a week and he just woke up with one this morning , is there something I can give him from the drug store, I have used cranberry pills for my self in the past but is there something I can give him NOW and like an everyday preventive ?????

Instead of using the pills, try the real stuff.
You might try giving Jacki a PM, and see if she can further advise.

I can help you with AB's, let me know what you need.
Are you sure he has a UTI though?
Sometimes the urine color and smell changes due to something they are eating,
especially with acorns and other nuts.

You don't want to rush to using AB's because then when you really
need them to work he may not respond to them anymore.

Another thing you can do this time of year is stock up on fresh cranberries.
Mine love to eat them and I offer them some daily.
At the end of the season I stock my freezer for the rest of the year.
Then I give them frozen (they get mushy when they defrost).
It's a great treat in the hot spring and summer months!

    Hi Sweet Simon's Mommy
Keep hounding the Vet and Even Make a Appointment if you have to, & take him in.
Try CranGrape or just CranBerry Juice. I use OceanSpray. Spanky loves the stuff.
? Are you feeding him Fresh CranBerries right now?? My Flyers will eat 5 to 7 each.
Good Luck with the Vet and getting Baytril." The Best for UTI"
    Happy Thanks Giving

He wont eat cranberries, only thing new in his diet would be the chestnut.
He smells bad and he had a good bath yesterday, I am giving him the day off of bathing, he hates it growls like the dickens, hold him in a fleece blankets and clean him with cotton balls, no more tubby, he really hates that.

since you are in FL, it will be best to have UTI diagnosed by a vet.
There are lots of FL members with good experienced vets.
I'd contact whoever is nearest you (or however far you can drive) and get a referral to a good vet and have him seen.
This way you will know what you are dealing with, instead of just administering ABs blindly.
It's when people are in illegal states and have no vet access that they give ABs without a clear diagnosis.

EDIT: just re-read the thread and see that you have a vet.
So, definitely, make an appointment asap

I agree I had that problem with my daughter no AB work for her now.
I called and called and finally just went there they said they would put in an order cuz I just wanted it on hand now I think I need it and I haven't heard from them. I am going to try again 2morrow.

My back up plan with cranberries (If they don't eat them)
is to get the powdered cranberry (I suggest a health food store or
Whole Foods to make sure it's high quality) and mix it into something he will eat.

I bake blocks so I can always put some in there.
Takes some creativity if they don't eat it willingly!
Let me know if you need anything, you know I am nearby

Left half my reply out for some reason...

...The cranberry has been proven to keep the infection from "sticking" and pass through.
Some studies are suggesting it may even help with more serious infections like MRSA!

I try to go the natural route as much as possible, and resort to meds only when needed.

You may want to plan to incorporate cranberry into his diet if he is at high risk for UTIs.
Maybe some more nutritionally experience members can advise you on how
much or how often (so as to not give him too much either!)
