Thread: Pumpkin Seeds--where to buy online for cheap?

Default Pumpkin Seeds--where to buy online for cheap?

I have looked all over locally with no luck. Where can I get pumpkin seeds online for cheap (taking into account shipping).

Also, how many pounds should I get for one itty bitty flyer? I plan to freeze the bulk of it.

    Thanks

Forget that one -- here's the 3lb bag for way cheaper:

Thanks IR That shipping is crazy, though. Standard ground to my ZIP is $14.52. O_O

I saw that the 10 lb has lower shipping on most other sites. I could get a ten lb bag, with shipping, for about $25. I know 10 lbs is a HUGE amount, but I could freeze a good portion, and maybe put some out for wildlife or go feed the ducks at the pond.

Maybe I sould call around some more and see if any feed stores have this. I had looked for human-quality sources for pumpkin seeds before.

Well, I called several local feed and seed companies with no luck. They have pumpkin seeds, but they said "no, no, no, not for eating" when i said they were for a pet. So no dice on the local front.

That is a great price on the link from Island Rehabber. I've been buying my nut supplies from Nutsonline for years and they are extremely reliable and customer oriented, and I thought cheap, but that other price is crazy good.

Yeah, I've made purchases from Nutsonline before (not for squirrels--Penny is a recent adoption), and their customer service is the best! I've even had the head guy, Jeff, email me. I think their stuff costs so much more because it's food grade for humans as opposed to feed grade for animals.

I think I'm going to order from the first link IR posted. With shipping it's $12.62, and from the Product Summary section (scroll down) it seems it's a 3 lb bag.

Do you have any farm stores in your area that would carry bird seed? Sometimes they will also have pumpkin seeds.

I looked all over that page, too, and I swear it just wasn't there at first!

Sorry I wasn't online earlier to see this -- Ardilla, if you haven't ordered yet, please see this thread http://thesquirrelboard.com/forums/s...ight=chuckanut -- the Chuckanut company generously offered a 10% discount to TSB members. Just mention when you call to order or to get their order form. (NOTE though that the prices went up and the first post has the old prices -- scroll down to post 7)

FYI, my husband just ordered pumpkin seeds from nutsonline (he didn't know about the discount from Chuckanut) -- they are AMAZING size and quality!! Huge. Bright white. I think they are about $2/lb -- but he bought 25lbs .

We found in trying to compare various vendors that there is often a big difference in shipping depending where you are located.

Thanks for the info! I hadn't placed my order yet. Too many distractions at work today.

ETA: Oh, yikes, I'd have to order 4 10 lb bags! Way too much for one little flyer. Thanks, though.

The wild squirrels outside LOVE them, too.

There are a very few foxers on the other side of town, and some places around here have Mexican ground squirrels, but we pretty much don't have squirrels down here. I would have to drive around and actively search them out.

We do occasionally have a flock of wild parrots come through our neighborhood, though.

Can you tell I live right by Mexico?

If you can still find them, just buy a couple of pumpkins, cut them open, take out the seeds and roast them. It's not really hard to do, and it's the cheapest way to go. I usually put mine in a 250 to 300 oven for about 15 or 20 min. Then stick them in the freezer. The squirrels will eat a little of the pumpkin, our guinea pigs love them, but unless you like making pumpkin pies from scratch, you're gonna throw a lot away, unless you know someone with goats or pigs or something! I bought about 100 pumpkins a few days after Halloween for $30! Luckily, we don't have to get out immediately and get all the seeds out - we just do a few as we get time.

Already we have hickory nuts, black walnuts, pecan nuts, peanuts, hazel nuts, oak nuts, beech nuts, chestnuts.......and now you're here!
