Allow me to introduce to you our first little boy of the season...Max X. :)
He's about three weeks old. Got him on Saturday. He was so cold I thought he was dead. When I realized he was still breathing (breath...pause, pause, pause, pause, pause, pause...breath [repeat]) I was sure he'd die before I could warm him slowly, hydrate him, etc. I sat in the gas station parking lot for at least 30 minutes with my windows up, doors locks, car off just holding him and warming him with my hands and belly. (I'm sure it was very interesting to watch; I was oblivious to the outside world)
He did survive and is now being brought up to full-strength formula. He's not out of the woods yet, but he's holding his weight, so that's good.
He has a bunch of tiny bruises and scrapes. Must be from falling out of the tree...
He's with me today. :D :D :D :D :D :nono
The first pic is of his bruises/scrapes (sorry it's blurry), the second was just cute :), the third again just because it was cute :), and finally his new smuggle-bag. :thumbsup The bag is made from a crocheted, stretchy material, and the interior is a breathable cotton...so no alterations needed in order to ventilate or accommodate the snuggle safe! :thumbsup Already passed it RIGHT UNDER co-worker's inspection this morning. ~ whew ~
Phase I: Complete.

He is so cute. Poor little Max X, look at that belly. I hope it heals, asap! That smuggle-bag is cute, I like that idea. I hope that no one suspects anything. :D

Yes, sir, we did.
My job is not my life, nor my livelyhood. I was made to rehab wild critters. My job is only the means by which I do what I love and nothing more. Jobs change. 10 years from now, no one here will remember anything I've done. But many generations of life will be born because of my willingness to take a chance to help just a few.
Wow. I think that's the MOST philisophical I've EVER been. LOL! :D

I think I just blew a circuit or two reading this on a Monday morning... shoulda been some kind of warning in the topic header. :D
What a cute little guy. Here's hoping he's a fighter... already got the best chance in the world with you. :thumbsup

Thanks, you guys. I know I'm taking a big chance, but I'm also doing things differently this time. Not only have a changed the container (and have a matching one with my real purse stuff in it :thumbsup ) but I've found a restroom that I can use to feed him in. :) It's in the building across the walk from mine and it's a single-use bathroom with a lock on the door.
Eyes-closed squirrels are easy to stash in the pockets of the sweater I keep here at work, so I just pop him in there, walk over to the bathroom and do our business and come back. If anyone asks, I'll tell them I need some privacy in the bathroom. LOL. What are they gonna say to THAT?!? :D

I want to print that out and post it on my computer board. Love your philosophy and Max X.
How do you warm the formula?

Morning all! :)
I'm glad you all like my philosophizing from yesterday. :D It's true, though. I work with so many people that work or their job is their life. I don't want to live that way. My daddy worked 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for as long as I could remember...saving and saving for a glorious retirement with my mom...and now he's gone. Died at a few hours past his 58th birthday. Worked his whole life away...for what? Yeah, I had a great childhood - growing up without ever having to want for anything...But I would trade so much of that now for a few extra hours spent with my dad...
Max is doing well this morning. Eating like a little champ and is up to 94 grams as of yesterday. :thumbsup
I'm at home this morning fighting a raging headache, so I had a little extra time with him...
In regard to how I warm the formula...I have a mug warmer at work that I put my pre-filled syringes in about 10 minutes before I'm going to sneak away to feed him. The mug warmer hides behind a document stand on my desk. I put the syringes in the waistband of my pants against my skin to keep them warm while we walk across the way, and stuff a few cotton balls and kleenexes in my pocket for stimulating him and wiping his face. :)

Boy CQ you are good :bowdown Maybe I should go double check all my employees surroundings to see what they are up to :rotfl nah as long as they are doing their work, not hurting anyone or anything illegall, I don't care. But if they do have animals they are smuggling in they better share or that will get them fired :rotfl

If you didn't live in Florida, I'd wanna work for YOU!! :D I wish my boss felt that way... I feel like I should be able to bring in eyes-closed, vet-checked infant squirrels to work as long as it NEVER interferes with my work or the amount and quality I put out, ya know? ~ sigh ~ Ah, well...someday I'll be semi-retired and working part-time at Wal-Mart in the Northwoods to pay utilities and all the rest of our stuff will be paid for...just 15 more years. (I'll be about 47) and I'll have plenty of time to do rehab... Just gotta get there first. :)

Oh, yeah, and I timed it yesterday. From the second I stand up at my desk to the moment I sit back down again...seven minutes flat. :) And that's taking my time with Max and making absolutely sure I don't *feel* rushed (don't want to pass that energy on to him) and that he doesn't aspirate.
We'll see if I can get away with it... ~ fingers crossed ~

Just a quick new pic for you all. :)
Max is doing great. Eating 5 cc every 3-4 hours, pooping and peeing great... He's still a big secret in my purse at work. Good boy that he is, he just sleeps and sleeps all day. He says he doesn't WANT to come out and say Hi to anyone...not to worry about him blowing his cover. :thumbsup

Too cute! That is good that he is a calm one. It would be funny to watch you try to hide Zippy in there. She would try to climb out all the time! She is always moving around in her cage. And she doesn't even have her eyes open yet. She is going to be a handful once she does!

What a handsome lil boy, he knows when to be good, doesn't want to get his mommy in trouble. How are all his scrapes and bruises he had when you first got him, have they started healing or maybe even gone away?
Critter_Queen
04-04-2007, 02:20 PM
Wow! Zippy sure sounds like a handful! I keep wondering when I'm going to get a pinky that calls out all the time, or who won't stay put in the hiding bag...not sure what I'll do then...probably do something like you do where you don't get any sleep! LOL!
MS, the scrapes are almost healed and the bruises are all gone. :thumbsup He's finally up to full-strength formula and his poops are looking great! YAY!

Here's some new pics of my little guy, Max! He's doing fantastic! He finally decided that cheerios and apples were ok when the milk machine is at work. :thumbsup :D The first and second pic are of him getting some back and butt scritches this morning with breakfast. :) The third is my fav, even though it killed my wrist to take that shot!
Oh, and aren't my squirrel-scratched hands and wrists just beautiful?!?! :D

Yeah, me too. :) He still has that kinda sleepy look to him...His eyes opened about a week ago, so that sleepy look should be gone soon. Not that I'm in a hurry...I love that look. :) Make me wanna kiss his little face! LOL!

CQ Max is looking great. Just love those pictures, not sure which I like the best, thought the butt scratching but then the one of him in your hand with those little paws wrapped around your hand is so sweet :rotfl Who needs to get paid with money when you have that kind of payment :crazy (well maybe just a little cash would be nice) :shakehead
