I'm getting conflicting reports from the two pet stores in town. One place suggested a small salt block for my flyer. The other told me that flyers do no metabolize salt and should not have it. Does anyone have experience and know this for sure? I'd appreciate your help!

Thanks!

Hmmm, that's a new one for me. What is the salt block supposed to be for? I know that flyers need a calcium source but i've never heard of them needing a salt source. I was owned by a flyer for many, many years and he never once said anything about wanting salt. :dono

A salt block would be fine to put in your flyer's cage, I have one in mine. I don't think they're essential, but some flyers like the taste of salt and it gives them something to chew on. How's little Earl doing?

I'm glad to know that it isn't a hard definite fact that salt kills flyers like the lady at the pet store led me to believe.

Earl is doing great! Thanks for asking. He is very popular. On the same day that he became part of my life, I also started a new job as Preschool Director in my church. I can't walk down the hall or into a classroom without being asked by many people, "Where's Earl??" "Is that squirrel in your shirt?" "Can I hold him this time?" Thanks to Earl, I'm becoming very well known quickly. Last night, he got an Easter present from one of the families in my group. They bought him a little grass hut (which he loves!), two bags of food, some wood chews, and a little bowl that they put his name on. Earl has no idea how good he has it in life!

My next goal is to get him into a better cage. Someone suggested a very large and tall bird cage. What is y'alls experience with cages?

I got a six foot tall greenhouse and converted it into a cage. I can email you a picture, my flyer seems to love his cage. It's just to hard to explain, but I would be happy to send you a picture or if I can, post one here.
