Though I have raised and released Gray Squirrels for over 15 years, I am new to raising a Southern Flying Squirrel and I am learing new things literally everyday. I have a female, Honey, who is about 3 months old and lives in my house uncaged.

Recently, I discovered a couple dead mice here and there around the house. As there is not poison on the premises, I am curious to know if flying squirrels have been known to be 'mousers'?

The mice do not look as though they have been savaged; though, they could easily have been mauled to death. I don't have a problem with this behavior, but I would like to know if Honey is acting 'territorial' or exhibiting common squirrel behavior. Frankly, I welcome her getting rid of the mice.

If anyone has any experience or knowledge, I would greatly appreciate your remarks. Thanks.

:Welcome to both you and Honey. Not an expert on the subject but I have never heard of flyers attacking anything besides nuts and fruit, oh yeah my toes at night :rotfl There is a link on the main page for Flying Squirrels that has alot of info, you might try reading that. Take a few pictures if you can and post them, we love pictures.

Oh yeah on the free run of the house, Flyers can get anywhere even more so than your average squirrel. We only allowed ours to live in our bedroom, or actually it turned into his bedroom. They are very very fast and small, one little door shutting or someone forgetting to put the toilet lid down and Honey will either be hurt very badly or worse. Please reconsider her area and please make adjustments in Flyer proofing the area.
