T'was the night before Christmas, and here in the south
My flyers were chewing the wheel off my mouse.
I'd hung up the stockings to fill them with nuts
and fruit and surprises for my little furbutts.
I got them all filled for the morning - what fun!
It was getting quite late, so to bed I did run.
I snuggled right down, and to sleep I soon went,
knowing that things were set - I was content.
It would be quite a day to remember, I know.
The weatherman even held out promises of snow!
I had the best dreams, full of Christmas times past
Family, friends, laughter - the years went by so fast.
And then down the hall there arose such a clatter
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
I rushed down the hall and threw open the door
And Horrors! my Christmas was all over the floor!
There went Muffin, and Flip, trailing ribbons everywhere
And Pierre and Queenie both landed in my hair.
Those rascals all got their cage open someway,
Discovered their stockings and wouldn't wait until day.
The nuts were all rolling around on the floor
With apples and oranges and goodies galore.
Wrapping paper was torn, and was really a mess
And the stockings were shredded and built into their nests.
The squirrels were so happy, and having so much fun
I knew that this Christmas was the very best one.
And I'd just like to say, before I clean up this mess...
